Unfortunately, you cannot manually select the release type — streaming platforms determine it based on their internal guidelines.
Use the rules below to better understand how your release will be categorized by major services:
Single
On Apple Music, a release is considered a single if:
It contains 1–3 tracks
Total duration is less than 30 minutes, and each track is under 10 minutes
On Spotify:
It contains 1–3 tracks
Total duration is less than 30 minutes
EP (Extended Play)
On Apple Music, a release is categorized as an EP if:
It has 1–3 tracks, one or more of which are 10 minutes or longer, and the total duration is less than 30 minutes
OR it has 4–6 tracks, and the total duration is less than 30 minutes
On Spotify:
It contains 4–6 tracks
Total duration is under 30 minutes
Album
On Apple Music, a release is considered an album if:
It contains 7 or more tracks
OR it contains 1–6 tracks and the total duration exceeds 30 minutes
Compilation
On Apple Music, a release is marked as a compilation if:
It features 5 or more primary artists
On Spotify:
It features 4 or more primary artists or remixers
